Certified organic skincare

Esse has subscribed to the organic standards set by Ecocert France.

We evaluated standards from around the world and Ecocert’s seemed to us to be the most clearly thought out.

Ecocert enforce minimum organic percentages and ban ingredients that they deem to be unsafe or unsustainable. They also audit our production facility and ensure full traceability of all raw materials.

Ecocert has been an invaluable way for us to show our clients that we exceed global expectations for organic products.

Esse and Ecocert.

We use the Ecocert organic standards as a starting point to provide us with a framework to evaluate our formulations. In most cases we far exceed the Ecocert requirements.

Ecocert allow the use of five synthetic preservatives. We don’t use these. Esse has chosen to use natural extracts to form the base of our preservative system. This allows us to support a “100% natural” claim and also allows us to claim “preservative-free”. We don’t use these claims because we feel that our clients are educated enough to see what we have done from our INCI ingredients listing.

Ecocert also set a minimum of 10% of the total of the ingredients from organic farming. Our organic percentages seldom drop below 70%.

Ecocert has been invaluable to us in their thorough research of “problem” ingredients. They have identified and moved quickly to enforce bans on several classes of ingredients that could have negative effects on skin or long-term health risks.

Ecocert have also been a great help in their yearly audits. They have set very high standards for both manufacture and accounting traceability. This has resulted in better quality control and more consistent product.

Biodegradability is also a major concern for Ecocert. Esse products are all rapidly biodegradable.

At the moment Esse certifies only the fastest moving lines due to the cost of certification.

The market for natural and organic products has exploded over recent years. This has prompted many companies to make unsubstantiated claims in an effort to capitalise on the trend. To ensure organic authenticity, it is critical to select products with certification from well-known authorities.
